Some states now have specialty license requirements for self storage owners / operators. These are licenses of convenience, like business licenses, that enable you to offer insurance for tenants to protect their stored goods from the unexpected. The following states require this limited license: AZ, CA, FL, IL, NC, NJ, NY, TX, UT, WA, GA, VA, AR and several more states have legislation pending. Each state has developed their own forms and processes, but many are called a "self-service storage insurance" license and there is no exam required to obtain it.
